DO YOU TREAT YOURSELF LIKE YOU TREAT YOUR FRIENDS? OR DO YOU HAVE ROOM FOR A BIT MORE SELF-COMPASSION?

There are numerous benefits to practicing self-compassion. If you want to understand the benefits or develop compassion as a skill, you’re in the right place!

We discussed these subjects in depth in a free webinar on October 12, 2021.
Here is a link to the replay for you.

Studies show that up to 80% of people are tougher on themselves than their friends. However, adversity, imperfection, and suffering are an inevitable part of life. So the question is, how do you treat yourself in these situations? Your answer to this question will greatly affect both your personal and work life.

Succeed through self-compassion

How would life change if you treated yourself like a good friend? Excessive self-criticism prevents us from feeling connected to others, achieving goals and succeeding. On the other hand, research has found that self-compassion is related to happiness, optimism and life satisfaction, among other things. A person who treats themselves compassionately is more motivated and more likely to achieve her goals. Studies also show that self-compassion has a protective effect against stress, and it’s associated with lower levels of anxiety and depression.

You can exercise self-compassion

Can you forgive your mistakes? Many of us encounter surprisingly powerful inner critics when we fail. Unfortunately, these critical thoughts might push us down and convince us that we’re not good enough to achieve our goals.

Fortunately, even self-compassion is a skill that we can strengthen through training.

Self-compassion is one of the most important things I’ve developed through studying and practicing positive psychology. Without the ability to exercise compassion for myself, I wouldn’t be here – working as an entrepreneur and educator, doing work that feels truly meaningful.
